Tertiary Health Care
Tertiary Health Care represents the highest level of healthcare services and primarily concerns the management of complex medical cases. It refers to health services that require specialized medical knowledge and skills (expertise), advanced equipment and infrastructure, and the support of various specialties and healthcare professionals.
Tertiary Health Care operates in cooperation with and as a support to Secondary Health Care, ensuring comprehensive patient care. Depending on the nature and complexity of each case, services of either Secondary or Tertiary Health Care are provided accordingly. This structured flow of care allows for continuous and organized management of healthcare needs, with each level supporting and complementing the other to deliver optimal services.
Tertiary Health Care is provided mainly by University Hospitals across the country, which set the following primary objectives:
- The education and specialization of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
- The development and advancement of research across various fields of medicine.
- The provision of care aligned with the level of specialization required.
