National Prevention Program “PROLAMBANO”
This is the first comprehensive National Prevention Program implemented in our country. The program covers almost the entire population and aims at the early detection of major chronic diseases responsible for premature deaths in Greece, through the establishment of free preventive diagnostic examinations for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer and cardiovascular risk.

Beneficiaries of these programs who have activated paperless prescribing receive their electronic referral for free preventive examinations. Those who have not activated paperless prescribing can use their AMKA number to contact any collaborating center in their area (public or private) and schedule their appointment for the respective examination of the program, without any financial cost (collaborating centers can be found on the program websites).

Personal Doctor

The Personal Doctor service provides individualized and continuous healthcare for every citizen. The Personal Doctor is one of the main points of contact between a patient and the healthcare system, aiming at early diagnosis, the management of chronic diseases, and guidance toward specialized healthcare services when necessary. In this way, holistic and high‑quality care for the citizen is ensured, contributing to the strengthening and promotion of health.

According to Law N.4931/2022, the Personal Doctor is responsible for prevention, the recording of the electronic health record, prescribing medication, and issuing referrals to the appropriate specialized medical personnel when required. All citizens over the age of 16 may register with a Personal Doctor.

Electronic Medical Appointments

It is now possible to easily manage your Medical Appointments, both at Primary Healthcare Units and with your Personal Doctor. Through the provided service, you can:

  • Create or cancel appointments
  • Manage appointment notifications
  • Receive a list of past appointments

Paperless Prescribing

Paperless Prescribing is a service of the Unified Digital Portal gov.gr. By activating the service, you can receive from your doctor the details of your medication prescriptions or examination referrals via text message (SMS) or email on your mobile device, instead of in printed form.

With your registration, you can also receive SMS or email notifications about your medical appointments. Practically, the Paperless Prescribing service replaces the printed prescription and/or examination referrals with their electronic version.

European Health Insurance Card

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is a free card that provides access to medically necessary and urgent healthcare during the insured person's temporary stay in one of the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, as well as the United Kingdom. A prerequisite for issuing the EHIC is having active insurance coverage.
